What's Happening Now Support our climate initiatives March 1, 2021 - Joint Venture added Coltura and Climate-Safe California initiatives to its spectrum of projects in 2020. Coltura, a west-coast nonprofit working to speed the transition from gasoline to cleaner alternatives, has launched, Beyond Gasoline to accelerate adoption of gasoline-reduction measures. The Climate Center is working to reduce greenhouse gases and has launched under Climate-Safe California with a comprehensive platform to bring California’s climate policies into alignment with current science. Beyond Gasoline | Climate-Safe California 2021 Silicon Valley Index: COVID and a tale of two valleys February 16, 2021 – The pandemic exacerbated all of the inequities that already existed in Silcon Valley, according to the 2021 Silicon Valley Index , released by Joint Venture’s Institute for Regional Studies. It was a tale of two economies, from the virus, to employment, IPOs, childcare, hunger, and housing, the pandemic plowed through every aspect of the economy. Issues that had long plagued the region have been magnified by the pandemic, notably racial and ethnic disparities, the struggle faced by those unable to keep up with rising costs, and gaping income and wealth divides. “The fact is, success is actually driving inequality,” said Russell Hancock, CEO of Joint Venture. Joint Venture Pivots in Response to COVID-19 On March 17, 2020 Russell Hancock, Joint Venture CEO, announced that for the duration of the COVID-19 crisis the organization would re-orient its efforts to match under-employed service workers to industries deemed "essential," secure and distribute food, provide crisis-related data and analysis, serve as a clearing house for information, provide broadband infrastructure, deploy computer hardware for school-age distance learners and more.
